The problem of belief?

Why is it that every belief system requires belief/faith (call it whatever you want)? Every religion says belief is required for any prayer to be answered or for any request to be fulfilled. The problem with this is that the same results can be achieved by atheists who believe that a certain healing technique can fix them. The New Age Movement has come up with many “crazy” solutions that atheists use, and while their methods have no relation to the actual healing, the patients who *believe* somehow get healed.
Doesn’t this sound mysteriously similar to the placebo effect? What if there was a god that did NOT require faith? You would just ask that god, thinking that what you’re doing is completely silly and childish, but the god would heal you despite your disbelief. It would seem that that would be the true god. The one god that separates himself from the placebo effect.
Paul, I mean for example Bio-resonance therapy.
onlymanolos1, the reason is this: no god has ever broken the laws of physics. To give you a specific example, a human has never been able to flap his arms and fly after asking a god for that ability.
