Was I a guinea pig? Or did my dentist learn better techniques?

healing techniques

I had to have 2 lower wisdom teeth removed. My dentist, (a year or two out of dental school) said he would do the “more difficult” one first in order to get it over with. So it takes like an HOUR, and it was a horrible experience. I didn’t feel pain, but it was a lot of jerking and pulling to handle for 60 minutes. After it was over, he said “I can’t put you through that twice in one day, so we’ll do the other one after this heals” So i said ok and was just happy to get the heck out of there. So I come back to get the 2nd one out, he starts to work on it and I start having a panic attack. He says that I am too nervous for him to do it, and he refers me to an oral surgeon, where I would be put to sleep. So I go to the appointment for the oral surgeon, he looks at the tooth to be removed, and I then told him I had the other “more difficult” one taken out under local anesthesia. And he looks very surprised that a dentist would have done that while conscious.
He then looked at the healed extraction area, and said “well he did wonderful job”.
So basically i’m wondering, did my dentist use me to gain experience? or do you think he might have learned newer ways to extract teeth? The oral surgeon must have been out of school for 35 years at least, he was old.
