Singing: How do you reduce vocal swelling/edema with a cold virus?

healing techniques
John asked:

I am coming down with a cold two days before I have to sing at a wedding. I am a trained opera singer, so pls understand that I am not ‘losing voice’ due to any bad techniques. But I need help on how to reduce edema to the vocal folds without risking vocal hemmorhage when I sing.

I have mild laryngitis — I can technically sing, but my head resonance has gone to crap and my control is lessened due to swelling of the cords. Range is down by a whole step, as I have to start covering on F#4 instead of G#4, and I can’t seem to hold the breath very well, presumably because my cords are swollen and can’t close all the way.

This is due to a virus:
My mom came down with something very similar on Christmas (of course), but I did not know about it until after I had been around her for a while. She lost her speaking voice a couple of days later, and is still recovering. I have no allergies or respiratory disorders.

Anyone have ideas on how I can heal by Saturday? Or at least sing?

Running technique?

healing technique
cafeplanete asked:

I love to run but always end up screwing up my knees. I have seen a doctor, and he told me that I pronate and needed special shoes, but even special shoes haven’t help me avoid injury.
My question is about proper running technique. I have done some research on the web, but I’ve come up with someconflicting information. One site suggests that when I run, I land on the heal of my foot and roll to the center and then spring forward on the balls. I think that landing on the heal of my foot is what might be hurting my knees.
I found another site that suggest the heels should altogether be avoided, and that proper technique involves landing on the balls and rolling to the center only. I did this yesterday and it seemed to work nicely. It felt right, and I seemed to be able to run much further without wearing myself down as much as I normally do. Does anyone know if the second technique is correct, or have any helpful suggestions? thanks

What promotional healing techniques are there for a Meniscus tear?

healing technique
Ben | Fortune asked:

I’ve had the tear not knowing it was there for 1.5 years and I got scanned recently and now I am aware of it, I believe my tear will be able to heal because of a few advantages, I’m young (17) and I have a healthy body, I’ve healed many injuries.

Now I’m just searching for additional techniques to promote healing other than the ideas I have come up with, since I gathered impact sports would aggravate I’ve been riding a bike since it’s smooth and doing the tasks set by the physiotherapist.

If there are any additional techniques please tell me, anything that could list from exercises to diet techniques, before I was aware of the tear I used to skateboard, freerun and jog often.

Thanks for any help or ideas, Ben.

I’ve figured out what I want to do with my life, but. will it work?

healing techniques
silentXnoXmore asked:

Hey, I’m fifteen, and I’ve been trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up since I was… oh five maybe. I’ve gone from Ice skater to dancer to musical theater performer and now I have this. I’m sure it’s what I want to do with the rest of life. I want to be a Naturopathic adolescent and child psychologist dealing in behavioral health and learning disorders. I don’t know yet if I’ll ad on art and music therapy. I will be focusing on trying to heal with alternative medicines, instead of referring to psychiatrists and chemicals and unnatural medicines with strange side-effects. I’ll be doing things like rei-ki (sp?) and acupuncture, and lott of other eastern healing techniques along with standard talk and play therapy with families and just teens and children.

My problem is, in the place that I live, if I open up this practice I’ll be drowned in holy water and considered a witch or voodoo person. There is absolutely no acceptance of that kind of healing around here. (small town hicks) I want to know if you think it would work. Where would it work? I know it might work in the big cities, but I’d like to stay closer to my home in mid america, but any thing goes right now I’m only a sophomore!

Thanks for your help,
silent
